R3 savvy

R3 Zerokit gives the standard Savvy (lower picture) a more aggressive appearance with low-slung looks

When the Proton Savvy was conceived, it was clear that the target market was for a new and young generation of buyers to whom sharp performance and more importantly, stylish looks, were important considerations. As originally designed, the Savvy already presents an original look with certain eye-catching elements but for those who must make it look sportier, there’s now the ‘Zerokit’ available developed by Race • Rally • Research (R3), the motorsports division of Proton.

The brand name ‘ZeroKit’ is said to symbolize the "point of origin for R3 performance" and was created to fill in the gap between standard Proton vehicles and high-performance limited edition R3 vehicles like the Satria R3. Derived from the words “zero” and “kit”, the combination is designed to convey everything that the R3 ZeroKit symbolizes: – entry level performance oriented styling products and parts with little compromise, targeted to the discerning enthusiast who wants to look the part. The unorthodox name was specifically chosen to carry such an important meaning because it would be far too conventional for R3 to choose a more ‘elaborate’ name. With the ZeroKit, the simplicity speaks for itself and fits perfectly with R3’s corporate mantra.

The ZeroKit consists of a performance-oriented bodykit with a pronounced front splitter and a streamlined rear spoiler as well as aggressively styled alloy wheels, both of which seamlessly complement the sporty lines of the standard Savvy.

True to R3’s simplicity and lightweight philosophy, each part of the 6-piece bodykit is made from high quality, ultra durable and lightweight Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP). FRP is a strong, advanced polymer widely used in the aerospace industry as well as by Lotus for the body panel construction of the Elise. The smooth and consistent surface finish quality afforded by FRP also meets Proton’s stringent Class A surface and paint standards.

Apart from the ZeroKit bodykit, which can also be purchased separately for customers who already own a Proton Savvy, R3 has also developed a list of performance parts that make it one of the most capable vehicles in its class. From the style-enhancing dark titanium headlamps to the performance spring kit and performance rear exhaust muffler, each product is specifically design to optimize the performance of the standard Savvy without sacrificing everyday comfort and drivability.

The ZeroKit for the Savvy is the first in a line of new and exciting products to come from R3. In due course, there will also be a Zerokit for the Gen.2, according to sources.

Proton also supplies the Savvy with a Zerokit already installed so that you can have the cost of the additional items included in the H-P loan. It is available in Magma Red, Midnight Black, Stratos Blue, Apple Green and Sterling Grey. The company expects sales of 200 units per month.

For those who already own a Savvy and want to get a Zerokit items, the price is RM2,000. For the other R3-developed items, the prices are as follow: R3 Exhaust muffler - RM275; R3 springs - RM370; R3 Headlamps - RM470; Alloy rims(with tyres) - RM1000.
